Introduction to
Compassion & Kindness
February 15, 2025 7 pm pacific; 9 pm Mx
This teaching not only provides the foundation for a person’s mind to become extraordinary, but through many methods, develops an indispensable condition for achieving liberation.
To train the mind, one must first establish a strong foundation rooted in aspiration. Since sentient beings tend to act for their own benefit, one must train one’s mind in generating the intention to act for the benefit of others. To see sentient beings as lovable, compassion is crucial.
Then, with the intention of taking on the burdens of others and increasing one’s own mental strength, you can eventually bring forth the actual mind of enlightenment. It is taught that one must continuously meditate on loving-kindness and compassion while clearly understanding the nature of compassion and special compassion. By contemplating on the qualities and thought of cherishing others, and by training the mind in equanimity and in exchanging self for others (bdag gzan mnyam brje), one can enjoy happiness on a daily basis, and ultimately, attain liberation.
